The Arts Society Sarisbury Green meets in the Sarisbury Green Community Centre (see >here< for map) and there is a very lively social ambience to the meetings. Coffee is served from 10-10.30am.

Formed in January 1990. We are one of the more successful societies in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. There are about 360 societies in the UK, mainland Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The combined UK membership is 91,000.

What is The Arts Society? It embraces the visual arts of painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, gold and silver as well as architecture, historic gardens, castles, country houses, mansions and palaces, and given the ravages of time and nature, ruins and archeological subjects. The Arts Society is a leading arts education charity with a global network of local Societies which bring people together through a shared curiosity for the arts.

We preserve and contribute to our artistic heritage through volunteering and grants.

One of the Society’s most popular features is the monthly lecture on a subject associated with the visual arts and the heritage of the UK. Lecturers are drawn from a pool of about 300 accredited lecturers who cover over 4000 topics. The Arts Society ensures that it maintains a very high standard and this is seen by the astonishing range of subjects and the quality of the lecturers. >Click Here< for more information about The Arts Society.

We organise Visits to major art exhibitions in London, to country houses and to castles of renown for day trips. There is also a four-night five-day tour of a region of the UK visiting many important and some not so well-known properties for our enjoyment and instruction.

We have Special Interest Days each year where a subject is covered in much more detail than is possible in our monthly one-hour lectures.

Young Arts aims to make visual art accessible to students in local schools. We have supported trips to Southampton Art Gallery where students see art in a museum but also get hands-on in some artistic activity, usually ending up with paint, chalk or modelling clay all over them. We are currently engaging with St John’s Primary School, Locks Heath, on an installation based around the theme of ‘Hope.’
