We have a Christmas tree for The Arts Society Sarisbury Green in St John’s Church , Locksheath. SO31 6LW Tree Festival.

Starting on December 4th to Sunday December 7th, when there will be a short closing service at 4pm.

We are number 14 at the top of the ramp in the Chancel.

In July Stan Holden presented the completed Record to the Chaplain, the Revd. Simon Brocklehurst at an Evensong communion service at the church.

It was the culmination of three years’ work by our dedicated Recorders.  The church is part of the Southwick estate which was granted to John White by Henry VIII in 1538, and it has remained in the family by direct succession ever since. The Record contains 300 pages of descriptions and many hundreds of photos of the contents of the church, including: John White’s tomb and many memorials, which helped in compiling a complete family tree; a 12th century font and many graffiti marks; silver plate dating back to 1691; an Elizabethan altar table; many beautiful frontals and vestments; a large 18th century painted reredos, and a peal of six bells dating back to 1440.  

WE ARE NOW RECRUITING NEW CHURCH RECORDERS.  

Our next church project is to be St John the Baptist, Shedfield, which is a richly furnished church. We will have a recruitment stand at our first Society meeting at Sarisbury Green since lockdown, on 17th September.  If you are interested, please come and talk to either Valerie Archibald or Stan Holden at that meeting, or contact valeriearchibald@yahoo.com.  We will be organising comprehensive training sessions for new Recorders.
